THE WEEKLY REEL : DREAMS FOR CLARKSTON KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED!
Thursday August 29, 2013
What is Dreams for Clarkston?"15 aspiring entrepreneurs go through a 12 week business program, each hoping to walk away with a $10,000 loan."
Dreams for Clarkston is a documentary that examines the lives of several Clarkston, GA micro-entrepreneurs hoping to start their own businesses. The film follows a few candidates through the Village-Capital-Start Program: a unique series of seminars, developed with support from Social Enterprise @ Goizueta at Emory, aimed to provide the selected candidates with the knowledge and confidence to start their own business. The film takes the viewer into the homes of the aspiring Clarkston entrepreneurs, many of whom are refugees, hoping to start a new life in America. As the film takes a closer look at the painful past of a few participants and the hardships they have overcome, new meaning is brought to the program's importance. Additionally, the film visits past program participants, shedding a light on the possibilities for the current loan candidates. Finally, the story culminates with 2-3 participants receiving a financial loan of up to $10,000 to help start-up their business. The final moments reflect joy, hope, and excitement for the entrepreneurs as they look to the future with greater confidence in themselves.
What is our goal? We've completed primary filming on the project, and post-production is well underway. Ultimately our goal with this film is to shed some light on a program that is helping improve local communities and their economies. While the documentary focuses on the Clarkston community, we truly believe that this program can be successfully reproduced and go on to help other aspiring entrepreneurs throughout the world. We want to reach a large audience, outside of the Metro-Atlanta area, and we can't do that without your support.
What are we asking for?Upon completion, the film is currently set to air on Atlanta's secondary public broadcasting station PBA30 with national availability through the Public Broadcasting Station's online streaming service. In order to reach a broader audience, we also want to send Dreams for Clarkston to film festivals. Digital transfer for television broadcast, a premiere event, DVD copies and distribution costs are where we need your help. We're asking for $10,000 total, and any amount that you can contribute is greatly appreciated. Although your contribution is not tax-deductible, we are offering several rewards (posters, t-shirts, film credits, and more) based on your contribution amount. See the details on the right sidebar.
Make sure to follow the project progress on the EventStreams Facebook page.

Risks and challengesLearn about accountability on Kickstarter
The challenge that comes with making any documentary is finding an audience that believes in you're cause. While we are passionate about the positive impact the Village Capital-Start Program can have, conveying that message to a wide audience is still a challenge.
